Creating Yohan vs Stark Day by Day

4/15

I created the script on this day the script was originally difficult to get started with but once I found the foundation I desired it came out smoothly. It was important for me to write the sound effects into the script to be sure the placements made sense.

4/19

I started with getting all the audio files downloaded using ttsmaker for the narrator, Yohan, and Agent Diamond Flame. All the sound effects came from free sites like Pixabay or free sound.org

4/21

This was the day I started cutting up the audio and placing items into bandlab. I’m pretty experienced with using Bandlab for projects and use it for all audio work so it went smoothly.

4/23

This is the day I started creating my visual portion of the work. I started with attempting to geranted A.i photos using  Geminimagic studio, and craiyon. Some photos came out perfect the first time like the emp’s but photos revolving around the characters were the hardest to remain consistent. I then started placing the photos in canvas and editing the audio in video and correlation.

4/25

This is the day I turned in the project, I finalized all edits and had a few friends review my video to give opinions once they saw it and gave feedback I tweaked anything that needed fixing and I turned it in.

Yohan vs Elon Stark the battle to save humanity.

The work:

The process:

  1. I originally began by brainstorming ideas surrounding the tech noir theme, I drew inspiration from media in the style that already exist. I also knew for a fact that I wanted my story to have a world ending event and evil robots as this style loves evil robots.

2. I then completed the script, this took a couple attempts to prefect and had to make multiple changes during the process so that my edits and the content being spoken matched. I wanted my script to have a clear beginning, middle and end like all good stories but I still needed to make it within the boundaries of my video editing skills. I wrote my script on pen and paper this is the only portion of the work that wasn’t done on my desktop

3. I then created a list of sound effects and visuals that I thought would go well with my final, not everything on the list made it but most of it was used and the list was actually very helpful. I then used an A.i generator to make the photos I thought would fit my project.I used 3 total and they all did fine: Gemini, magic studio, and craiyon

4. The final step in the process was to edit the audio and video together and make them line up. I started with the audio making sure everything was where it was supposed to be and it sounded like an actual conversation. I used ttsmaker for all the voices during the story and Bandlab to mix the audio. The visual and final edits were doing using Canva.com

Conclusion:

This course has taught me a lot about digital story telling and the tech noir theme. The way the projects built on one another during the course of the semester teaches you the step by step components to make a successful project whether that be audio or video. This course also does a good job at challenging us to be creative by making our own unique content. The group project was also nice as it allowed us to see what others are capable of, edit audio and visual components in a group setting, and exchange skill and technique with like-minded individuals. Like anything the hardest part of the work was getting started but once you found your footing then the project went smoothly and are fun to edit and complete.

Week 12 the plot thickens.

This week went by quick but I finally feel back on track and may have a chance to get ahead of things this weekend. This week we were assigned to complete 3 daily creates. The first challenged us to generate a spy name, this actually helped me with my project as I created a character from the name I generated and will hopefully be able to make them a part of the final project. For the second we were challenged to create a poem from a conversation we overheard and I loved how my poem turned out and actually found it catchy. The last create of the week had us honor our pets for national pet day which was awesome as a pet owner. It was refreshing to see everyone’s pet and finish the week with a wholesome daily create. For assignments this week we were only given one which had us face a more challenging task in creating a trailer for our final project

The rise of Chat GPT:

In creating the trailer for the final project I used many tools and tried to create something useful that my final project could build off. The first step was to create a name and rough draft for my short film. After I jotted down some ideas the script quickly began to form and the content you see in the trailer was created, I then moved into the audio side of things so I could get a grasp on how long my video portion had to be I added free sound effects using pixabay and the audio was edited using bandlab. Once the audio was finished I moved to the video portion which I knew would be the hardest. I created the video on canva, making the script come to life was very hard but not impossible. For the final I will spend more time fine tuning edits and I want to learn how to edit the video portions better. I also want to learn how to better manipulate photo generators as it took me much longer to get the photos I needed than expected and it was hard to pull consistent results.

Daily creates:

  1. For my first daily create of the week I used a secret name generator to create Agent Diamond Flame. She works hand and hand with my character Yohan and she was put on ice and froze for 100+ years. Once I generated her name I used a photo generator to create her character which I think turned out well and fits the theme of tech noir. I plan to incorporate this character at least once in my final, but if I’m unable to at least I can say I tried.

2. For my second daily create of the week we were assigned to create a poem from a dialogue we overheard. I heard my family member on the phone with their friend and they said the phrase “it’s always good to get out and walk”. I used this as the start of my poem and built around this phrase. I tried to do a rhyme scheme that skips a line then continues. I actually like the poem I made and believe it’s quite catchy and holds a good message as we approach warmer weather. I also created a cover to go with my poem on canva that’s in my favorite color which is green.

3. For my third daily create of the week we honored national pet day, so I posted my two babies. I wasn’t able to go see them today on the 11th due to my schedule and class, but I will go visit them tomorrow and be sure to give them extra love and treats since I wasn’t there today.

Voices of DS106

The radio listen was fun. I was able to listen to the fearless femmes podcast which was amazing. My favorite part of the podcast were the ads. They were creative and sounded like professional radio ads. I also enjoyed the variation in topics and the humor they brought to the podcast while watching they were able to actually make me and my roommate laugh a few times as we listened in. I like the idea of having viewers call in asking for advice to deal with their futuristic problems that seemed realistic it created an interesting dynamic and keeps the listeners engaged. It was very interesting to see how this group approached the assignment as me and my group took a totally different route, seeing how they were able to do the assignment so different than us yet so successful make me excited to see what everyone’s final project will look like. I wasn’t able to listen to my groups podcast with the class sadly, but I did listen to it again today for the purpose of this post, I think we did a good job and had a unique project I am still proud of my edits but after seeing others podcast I definitely want to incorporate more music into my editing style.

Daily creates

1.   For my first daily creation of the week we were tasked to show what happened when we opened a mysterious door. Behind my door a luxurious high rise was hidden and is a great reminder to not judge a book by its cover. I was inspired for this post while watching a tik tok where the user was in a foreign country and the outside of his house looked simple and it was made of mud, but once he stepped in it was filled with modern commodities and many even commented that the inside of his house was nicer than theirs.

2. For the second daily create of the week we were asked to decipher a  part of the Voynich manuscript. I decided to choose the page that has a sun with a face surrounded by what looks to be either a clock or calendar. Regardless of which I believe they worshiped the sun or at least thought it was living and this was an early attempt at measuring time.

3. For the 3rd and final daily create of the week we were asked to share a photo or name of something ironic and I decided to send the Golden gate bridge. The bridge isn’t golden at all, it’s orange, and the golden GATE bridge doesn’t even have any gates, only toll posts. Maybe the golden gate had to do with the gold rush or something. Now I’m interested in looking into the backstory and naming of the bridge.

Week 11 the calm before the storm.

This week zoomed by quickly. I’ve been super busy as the semester is coming to a close. This week we were responsible for 3 daily creates which I was able to get done in the backend of the week. I was able to decide what was behind my door like the legend of Narnia, became a philosopher and attempted to solve a page of the Voynich manuscript, and to end the week was able to question the origins of the golden gate bridge’s name. The radiolisten was very eye opening and showed just how creative my classmates truly are. Seeing what everyone is capable of has me excited to see everyone’s final project and prepared to bring my A game for my own.
